When to run a technical discovery sprint

3 July 2026

Signs you need a short planning sprint before you build, buy, or hire — and what a good sprint should produce.

A discovery or clarity sprint is a short, fixed engagement to decide the path before you spend. It is useful when the problem is real but the solution is not.

Run one when

  • You are about to commit meaningful budget
  • Vendors are pitching and you cannot compare them fairly
  • The team disagrees on architecture or priorities
  • You have been burned by a previous build

What you should walk away with

A decision memo, a 90-day roadmap, build/buy guidance, and clear next options — leadership retainer, a delivery phase, or an internal plan your team can own.

Next step

A clear plan before you spend. From $9,500 + GST.
